New team to take over Greenhills GP surgery
A new team of GPs has been appointed to take over the running of an under-threat East Kilbride health centre.
The current owners of Greenhills Medical Practice announced in May they were quitting as of October 31 due to a combination of ongoing challenges, including GP recruitment and “unforeseen”circumstances.
But NHS Lanarkshire announced this week that following a selection process a preferred bidder had been found.
A selection panel unanimously agreed that the proposal from Drs Rehman & Lal – Lanarkshire Medical Group – was accepted and the decision has now been ratified by the chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire.
Dr Linda Findlay, medical director of South Lanarkshire health and social care partnership, explained:“The completion of this vital stage marks the attainment of NHS Lanarkshire’s primary objective, which has been for Greenhills Medical Practice to continue with new GPs taking responsibility for staff and providing primary medical services to patients in the locality.
“The focus of NHS Lanarkshire is now on supporting the transition between the outgoing partners and Drs Rehman & Lal. A number of areas of work and discussions relating to the transition are now ongoing.
“This includes establishing a handover date, which is scheduled to be November 1 unless and alternative date is agreed.
“We will communicate to staff, stakeholders and write to all patients of the practice when this stage of the process is complete and we are in a position to clearly and comprehensively advise on the next steps.
“We will also be assuring patients that the new GPs are very keen to ensure they continue to provide patients with high quality clinical services, and to develop new services in the future.” It’s easy to get your news into print news@ eastkilbridenews. co.uk
