Cop warning as car thieves strike at four homes in one night

Car thieves are continuing to target East Kilbride under cover of darkness.

Four incidents of vehicle crime were reported to police overnight on Saturday, August 4 in Lindsayfie­ld and Jackton.

A suspect was reportedly seen trying doors of vehicles and homes in Quantock Drive and Kavanagh Crescent in Lindsayfie­ld in the early hours of the morning.

During the same period, a white Mercedes C-class was stolen from outside a property in Jackton View and car keys were swiped from a nearby house.

Police confirmed this week they are following a positive line of enquiry.

Sergeant Barry Jones said:“Following a number of sneak-in thefts from properties in the Lindsayfie­ld and Jackton areas we are following a positive line of enquiry.

“We remind people to be vigilant regarding their home and vehicle security. Keep doors and windows locked and do not leave vehicle keys within line of sight or easy reach of letterboxe­s.”

The recent spate of vehicle crime continued into this week.

A Ford Fiesta was stolen from Kirkton Place, the Village overnight on Sunday.

And overnight into Thursday, August 23, thieves gained entry to the rear yard of a commercial premises at Hawbank Road in College Milton industrial estate and drove off in a Ford Transit van.

Last week the News reported how firebugs torched three vehicles in an industrial estate on Stroud Road.

The plant vehicles at Strathclyd­e Commercial­s and Plant Ltd, which officers said are worth“a significan­t value”, were deliberate­ly set on fire at around 5am on August 20, causing extensive damage.

And in the last few weeks, a number of Ford Transit vans have been targeted overnight in the Calderwood, Westwood, Greenhills and Whitehills areas with electrical power tools stolen from within.

There have also been reports of vehicles having their tyres slashed. Two incidents occurred in Kenilworth overnight on August 17 and August 19 with another in Murray Square on August 13.
