Tributes pour in for tragic schoolgirl, 14
Tributes have been paid to a “gorgeous” 14-year-old Strathaven schoolgirl who was found dead.
Abbie MacDonald, who was a pupil at Strathaven Academy, was described by heartbroken friends as a gorgeous, talented girl and a good friend to many.
The teenager was discovered in the Strathaven area at 9.05pm on Monday, August 20.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
The News understands the school sent letters to parents about the tragedy – and pupils are being offered counselling.
In a Facebook post, Ciara Dickson said: “We all lost someone close to many of us. Such a gorgeous, talented girl, good friend to many people.”
She added: “Cannot explain how distraught everyone was when we all found out this morning. You will be loved and missed very much gorgeous girl. RIP.”
Morag Anderson wrote: “Such sad news. My thoughts are with her family and friends.”
Christine Morrison added: “Utterly tragic.”
And Samantha Johnstone posted: “Loveliest girl ever!”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “At 9.05pm on Monday, August 20, police were advised of the death of a 14-year-old girl in Strathaven.
“Her death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
A South Lanarkshire Council spokesman added: “We can confirm that a South Lanarkshire pupil has sadly passed away.
“Support and guidance will be offered to pupils and staff.”
