Colleagues in peak form for Ben Nevis climb

Five supermarke­t workers from East Kilbride scaled Ben Nevis in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust – helping to fund over 3000 hours of specialist nursing care for young people with cancer.

David O’Hare, 25, Darren Black, 26, Chris SmithSlavi­n, 21, Michael Clark, 29 and 23-year-old Scott Maxwell took on the epic challenge in aid of Aldi East Kilbride’s charity partner.

Customers of the Queensway store also chipped in to raise over £500 for the cause with a £100,000 fundraisin­g milestone in Scotland achieved.

Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Aldi Scotland, said: “The generosity and undeniable support from our customers and colleagues across Scotland has exceeded all possible expectatio­ns.

“Every single person has gone above and beyond to raise as much money as possible for Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Teenage Cancer Trust has launched a new outreach nursing and support service in Scotland so that more young people have access to the specialise­d nursing they desperatel­y need.

Linda Noon, interim director of fundraisin­g at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the passionate and enthusiast­ic support that Aldi’s team and customers are giving to young people with cancer.

“The money raised by colleagues and customers in Scotland will allow us to fund over 3000 hours of specialist nursing care and will make a huge difference in the lives of so many young people with cancer.”

Teenage Cancer Trust delivers world-class cancer care and support to young people diagnosed with cancer aged 13 to 24 and works in partnershi­p with the NHS.
