Is ‘Punchgate’ taking reality TV a bit too far?
News readers give views on CBB incident
Celebrity Big Brother contestant Roxanne Pallett has been dubbed the most hated woman in Britain after accusing co-star Ryan Thomas of deliberately punching her on the show.
The shocking incident generated over 11,000 Ofcom complaints. She finally admitted she ‘got it wrong’ and made a public apology.
The News asked shoppers in East Kilbride for their views on ‘Punchgate’ and if they thought reality TV was taking ‘entertainment’ too far.
Shantell Dillon, 27, said: “I think she would have carried on lying if she thought she would get away with it. It’s horrible to wrongly accuse someone because people go through this in real life. She should be charged for what she has done. I hope she never works again.”
Beth McGlashan, 62, commented: “I don’t class Celebrity Big Brother as entertainment. This was very uncomfortable to watch. He did nothing wrong. She has issues.”
Greenhills mum Denise McAllister, 36, said: “I feel sorry for Roxanne. What she did was terrible but she obviously has problems.
“The production team should have played the clip to the other housemates right away instead of playing with people’s emotions.”
Joe Devine, 62, from Greenhills, said: “Shocking. I’m glad the cameras caught it. “This is not entertainment. “I think producers should be screening for mental health issues.”
