Green light for houses The row rumbles on after London and Scottish Investments were granted permission to build 89 family homes on five acres of derelict land at Redwood Crescent in Peel Park as part of a £15million private housing development.

There are also plans in the pipeline for a multi-million pound retail park – although concerns have been raised over the impact this could have on the town centre.

Danny Kane posted: “I’m 50/50 for/against this. I don’t agree entirely with their decision.”

Linda McPhee hit out at the lack of social housing.

She said: “No council homes. I’ve waited more than 14 years and even with medical points, no chance. I know others housed quickly and in less need!”

Meanwhile, Therese Pauline posted:“thriving”. That’s a good one.

“How about get the shops and amenities in first then the houses.”

Other people feel any further retail development in East Kilbride would be likely to struggle.

Susan Mcloone said:“Why another retail park?

“We have a town centre that’s closing down stores almost monthly and a retail park at the Kingsgate much the same.

“Fill your empty cupboards first then decide if you really need new ones.”

John Mitchell replied:“Another green space lost.”

And Melody Bandford added: “We need a proper park-and-ride facility first.”
