New kit cash grant

- Andrea Lambrou

A youth football team will be ready for the worst of winter thanks to a cash boost from a housebuilder.

EKFC Blues, who train at K-Park, scored £500 through the CALA Homes (West) community bursary scheme for specialist training gear which will allow the Under-11s team to train at the outdoor facility throughout the season.

The 21-strong squad train twice a week at the Calderglen pitches and play every Saturday in the Lanarkshire Football Development League.

Delighted EKFC Blues head coach Andrew Buchanan said: “Our ethos at EKFC Blues is to encourage young people to play and enjoy the game and keep fit and healthy so it is great to receive the funding to help us combat some of the challenges we face in achieving this – mainly the unpredictable Scottish winters.

“The community bursary grant will help us drive grassroots football forward in all seasons and equip our boys to get the most from the fantastic outdoor training facility that K-Park offers.

“Additional support from businesses is key at this level of football and we are very grateful to CALA.”

Josh Hollywood, marketing assistant at CALA Homes (West), added: “I was thrilled to be able to head to K-Park to see the EKFC Blues team in action and understand how CALA’s donation will make a big difference.

“Our involvement in supporting communities within Lanarkshire assists in making essential positive changes in the local areas in which it is building. It was great to see the impact our donation has had for the team in encouraging the kids to get outdoors and keep fit and healthy all season long.”

The housebuilder’s community bursary has supported 15 different charities and community groups across the west of Scotland so far this year.
