CUP WIN SEES EKYM INTO LAST FOUR

-

EKYM are through to the semi-finals of the Douglas Smith League Cup after beating Callander Thistle 2-1 on Saturday.

The strong gusting wind caused havoc as both sides struggled to play good attacking football.

Good moves were few and far between in the first half with Connor McCann having YM’s best chance, when put through by Peter Kelsall, but the keeper made an excellent stop.

Callander took the lead in the second half with a simple tap-in.

But YM rallied and laid siege to the visitors’goal.

McCann’s rasping shot was well saved and it started to look like it would not be YM’s day when Ross McDonagh’s drive beat the keeper but rebounded to safety off the upright.

As YM forced numerous corners, the equaliser arrived when Jordan Calder got his head on Jordan Fletcher’s cross to lay the ball back for his central defensive partner Liam Sloan to volley into the net from 12 yards.

The winner arrived when Dean Arroll made a surging run forward and found McDonagh who fed Anthony Penman and his shot gave the keeper no chance.

This Saturday YM are on Scottish Cup duty when they play Rosyth Amateurs at Hamilton Palace (kick-off 1pm).

●YM’s Greater Glasgow Premier League side won their League Cup quarter-final against EK Rolls-Royce 1-0 thanks to Jack Brown’s goal.
