Which kids TV show was your favourite?

Readers share childhood memories

Children’s television presenter Geoffrey Hayes sadly died last week at the age of 76. The celebrated star was best known for appearing alongside kids TV favourites Zippy, George and Bungle in more than 1000 episodes of Rainbow.

This week the News asked East Kilbride shoppers what their favourite childhood TV programmes and entertainers were back in the day – and what kids’ favourites are now.

Blair Aitken, 8, from Calderwood said: “I like the cartoons Paw Patrol and Top Wing but The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent are my favourite TV shows.”

Euan Brown, 20, told the News he was too young to recall star man Geoffrey.

He said: “I don’t remember Rainbow because I was born in the 90s. I watched shows on Nickelodeon, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry and the Looney Tunes. Kids TV is awful these days – but they’ll probably think the same about ours.”

Murray mum-of-three Tiffany Sullivan, 25, who was also a fan of 90s kids’ TV, said: “I loved Rugrats, Teletubbies and the old classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo and Ant and Dec on Saturday morning telly. My kids watch Paw Patrol and Horrid Henry.”

Gran Michelle Hassan, 48, said: “I liked Rainbow, Swap Shop with Keith Chegwin and Little House on the Prairie. Children’s TV is very different nowadays. My granddaughter watches things like Captain Underpants.”
