Erin gets a new look
Schoolgirl, 17, gets chop for charity
A big-hearted schoolgirl has braved the shave and shed her crowning glory in memory of her mum.
Erin McCann completed the hair-raising challenge in aid of the Little Princess Trust on Friday – and has collected a whopping £1300 in donations for the charity.
The 17-year-old sixth-year pupil at St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High was inspired to go for the close shave after losing her mum Helen to breast cancer in 2011.
Erin was also touched by the cause which provides real-hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
Determined to raise awareness of their plight, the former St Kenneth’s Primary pupil committed to a brave pledge she made to her family to lose her beautiful long brown locks in the name of charity.
Erin, who hopes to go on to university to become a primary school teacher, went for the chop at 1302 hair salon at Lindsayfield Retail Parade where family friends Vincent and Maria Barsotti gave her a new look free of charge.
Proud dad Martin told the News: “Erin wanted to shave all her hair off in recognition of kids going through cancer.
“This was a very brave decision especially for a girl her age as hair and image are very important – and it’s her leavers prom next year – but she was determined to do it, and pay tribute to her mum.
“The whole family are extremely proud of her.”
