10 COLOURFUL Twins turn the Hydro purple for sick kids

Hospital campaign

- Andrea Lambrou

It was double delight for Greenhills twins Emma and Emily McHugh as they plastered two landmarks purple for sick children.

The eight-year-old fundraisers lit up the SSE Hydro and the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow – which were specially-illuminated purple to mark the start of a month-long charity cash drive.

Little Emily has spina bifida, scoliosis of the spine and hydronophrosis of her right kidney and has had three major operations over the years so the pair have first-hand experience of the hospital environment.

From now until Wednesday, October 31, individuals, businesses and schools across Scotland are encouraged to ‘Plaster it Purple’ by donning, decorating and getting creative in aid of the charity, which supports patients and their families.

And Crosshouse Primary pupils Emma and Emily were among the first to pledge their support to the cause – with plenty of purplethemed plans up their sleeves.

Mum Tracey said: “As a family we are very familiar with the Royal Hospital for Children and are exceptionally grateful for the work of the surgeons, doctors, nurses and other staff, as well as the support offered by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

“Over the years the girls have organised Christmas gift appeals, a teddy trek and various other activities to give back to the charity – and as a family we take part in various events to raise extra money. When we heard about ‘Plaster it Purple’, there was no question of getting involved.”

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’s Kirsten Sinclair said: “We’re thrilled to have the support of Emma and Emily – as well as the iconic SSE Hydro – as we kickstart our month-long Plaster it Purple campaign. The money raised will help support our young patients and their families.” Twinning
