Mist clouds view for rambling club

Groups endure tricky trip in Kilpatrick hills

- Edith Findlay

Conditions were difficult for Claremont Rambling Club members during an outing in West Dunbartonshire’s Kilpatrick hills.

Ramblers were faced with high winds and heavy rain so much so that the long walk reduced their route by approximately two miles to return to warmth and comfort from walking Loch Humphrey and The Slacks.

The alternative walk was curtailed in this area to five miles, due to the same wild weather.

Members were reliably informed that ‘the views were outstanding’.

However, the weather was against the groups, with a heavy mist hanging over most of Glasgow.

Therefore, it was a case of having to believe what they had been told.

The morning stop was in Dobbies, Braehead and the social hour was enjoyed in the Goldenhill Pub, Hardgate.

The next walk will be on Sunday, October 21 with the destination being Drymen-Balmaha (Conic Hill).

Members are reminded that bookingon arrangements have changed slightly.

Bookings are taken Tuesday to Friday prior to the walk, divided thus – member-only bookings will be accepted on Tuesday and Wednesday before the walk with Thursday and Friday allocated to both members and visitors.

Bookings as before must be made no later than 4pm on the Friday.

The next club night will be on Tuesday, October 23 in the usual meeting venue of Claremont Church’s small hall at 7.30pm.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Ian Park and his subject will be entitled ‘60 years with Boot and Camera’.

Individuals wishing to join either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
