Lakeside worry for ‘The Boss’

-

Darts star Ross ‘The Boss’ Montgomery has revealed there is uncertainty surrounding the 2019 BDO World Championships.

Held at Lakeside Country Club in Surrey since 1986, it’s the top event on the British Darts Organisation calendar.

However, a venue has yet to be announced for the January showpiece and Montgomery told the News there has been no announcement on a TV deal either. BT Sport and the BBC shared the 2018 coverage.

The Boss, who has qualified for the tournament as the 15th seed, also believes players and fans have been left in limbo regarding travel plans, with tickets yet to go on sale.

“There has been no official confirmation about Lakeside, so there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding it,” the 55-year-old from Greenhills said.

“The players know nothing and the BDO directors have not announced anything yet.

“Tickets are usually on sale by August. People keep asking the players what’s happening and all we can tell them is we don’t know.

“It’s expected to start from January 5 and run until January 13, but the venue or if it’s going to be televised hasn’t been confirmed. I think every player will be concerned by that.”

Montgomery added: “It’s now October and the new season (for points towards the 2020 World Championships) has begun.

“Is it worth travelling the circuit for points towards 2020? Who knows?”
