Coffee morning brews up thousands for Macmillan

-

An East Kilbride woman once again hosted a successful Macmillan coffee morning.

The event, organised by Patricia Leslie and friends, was held in Claremont Parish Church and raised an impressive £2685 in aid of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

It was an early start and busy day for all involved but well worth the effort for such a great cause.

Family and friends, regular supporters from Claremont Church, the Red Deer Scottish Country Dancers, the Tuesday Ceilidh Dance Class, Moncrieff Church Scottish Country Dance group and folks from Robert Burns Clubs were all treated to endless cups of coffee, teas and home baking.

The annual fundraiser was previously held in Patricia’s Brancumhall home but has become so popular it needed a bigger venue.

Patricia said:“Six Calderglen High School pupils came along on the day and were kept busy setting up the hall, helping with the raffle and fun auction.

“They also cleared dishes and tidied the hall before returning to school for their afternoon classes. The young students were polite, enthusiastic and worked hard throughout the morning.

“Their help was invaluable and much appreciated.

“I was also delighted that MP Dr Lisa Cameron and South Lanarkshire Provost Ian McAllan took time to drop in and enjoy a cuppa as they chatted with fellow guests.

“Linda Fabiani MSP was unable to attend on the day due to work commitments. She, however, sent her best wishes and donated a voucher for lunch for two at the Scottish Parliament.”

She added:“I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s coffee morning such a success as Macmillan Cancer Support relies on such events to help with funding for the support and practical help they offer to cancer sufferers and their families.”
