Five-star birthday

- Colin Paterson

They have been celebrating at Strathaven Drama Club.

For the popular group has marked its fifth birthday in style.

It was all about entertaining and educating the members – and there was plenty of singing and dancing.

A special cake was also provided for the occasion.

It has been a busy time for the club which set off to the Kings Theatre in Glasgow and enjoyed seeing Shrek The Musical. Rehearsals have began for School of Rock, the club’s next production.

Although a relatively new musical, it has been inspired by the movie School of Rock, starring Jack Black.

There are some real ‘rock out anthems’ and members are very excited about entertaining the audiences, as well as their local community.

The club’s next community activity will be a ‘Family Fright Night’ on Saturday, October 27 at the Avondale Community Wing. Lots of Hallowe’en-themed games will be on offer as well as a disco and tombola.

All children will receive goodie bags and for adults, it’s a case of bring your own bottle.

Family tickets are £10 and everyone is welcome along.

For more information on the club, call 07752 686068 or visit the Facebook page.

Meetings take place on Friday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Avondale Community Wing.
