MP joins in with Enable club fun

- Nicola Findlay

East Kilbride’s Enable club welcomed Dr Lisa Cameron to one of their weekly social evenings.

The East Kilbride branch of Enable – which is run by unpaid volunteers – has been on the go continuously since 1962 and, until recently, was the only club of its kind.

It supports and provides activities for people with learning disabilities and is always on the lookout for more volunteers.

East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP Dr Cameron went along to the Old Parish Church hall in the Village and joined in with their social and games night.

A group of up to 50 people enjoyed the activities on offer and the company of their friends.

Club secretary James Mills said:“We enjoyed the support of Dr Cameron MP and everyone was pleased to see her.

“We are also very grateful for the support of the Old Parish Church and the generosity and charity of Lodge St Andrew in Kittoch Street who give us the use of their premises for our numerous functions as well as material support. Also, we have the potential to take on volunteers to help with the running of the club.

“We would provide accreditation and a reference, useful for interview and for CV purposes, to any applicant who secures a volunteering position with us.

“Email marge8889@gmail.com with enquiries.”

Mr Mills added: “Donations, however small, will be gratefully received and can be made to Secretary Marge Mills, 4 Shiel Place, East Kilbride, G74 4SG on behalf of Enable EK Branch.”
