Dogwalk tohelp animal charity
An Avondale wind farm is up for a top award thanks to its green credentials.
Banks Renewables at Kype Muir wind farm near Strathaven is a finalist in the best engagement category at the Scottish Green Energy Awards run by Scottish Renewables.
Kype Muir is a flagship development with 26 turbines.
As well as developing a commercial-scale wind farm where the social, environmental and economic benefits are maximised, it also aims to engage with the local community through various partnership projects.
The finals of the contest will be held on Thursday, December 6 in Edinburgh.
Scottish Renewables chief executive Claire Mack said: “The Scottish Green Energy Awards allow our industry to recognise its best and brightest. With 16,000 people working in Scotland alone, the renewable energy sector is making an enormous contribution to our economy, both nationally and in some of our most remote areas.
“The organisations and individuals who make up 2018’s shortlist shine a light on just some of the incredible innovation, commitment and knowledge which make our industry what it is.” Animal lovers in East Kilbride and Avondale are being invited to put their best feet forward with their furry friends and help raise funds for abused pets.
A dog walk organised by the Scottish SPCA North Lanarkshire group takes place at Strathclyde Country Park this Sunday at 1pm, with all funds going to Scotland’s animal welfare charity.
Scottish SPCA superintendent Sharon Comrie said: “We’re calling on dog lovers to come along to the sponsored walk and get involved. Everyone is very welcome to take part and meet other local dog owners.
“We don’t receive any government or lottery funding which means we rely on the public to be able to continue our work rescuing and rehoming animals in desperate need of our help.
“We are very grateful for events like these, organised by our dedicated and generous supporter groups, as they make a real difference and help us continue rescuing abused, abandoned and injured animals across Scotland.”
The meeting point is at the first car park after the water sports building. To find out more, call 07923 500684.
