Font’s on the Up ahead of homecoming show

-

It’s been a year to remember for LaFontaines - and they aren’t done yet with a festive homecoming show. The group, with members from Wishaw and Motherwell, spent the start of this month touring venues in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. But they will round off 2018 with a show a little closer to home, at Motherwell Concert Hall. Picking up where they left off in 2017, which included a sell-out gig at the Barrowlands and the release of second album Common Problem, the band began the year supporting Don Broco throughout the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.

New single Up was then released to critical acclaim.

The upbeat, summer rap/rockinspired track “is about that feeling of optimism” explained frontman Kerr Okan.

He said: “It’s for the people who have taken a good few on the chin but refuse to go down.

“This was the easiest song I’ve ever written.”

Kerr and the rest of the band also had to make a quick dash from Cologne to a sun-kissed Glasgow Green having been a late addition to this year’s TRANSMT festival.

But that didn’t matter to the thousands who were there who saw the Font’s produce a storming set.

At that time, Kerr said: “It was a bit of an unexpected mad dash back as we’d planned to play the show in Germany and go out and have a few drinks before heading back home.

“When we weren’t asked to play we were pretending that we weren’t bothered but we were secretly raging.”

The big gigs keep coming this year with the rockers delighted to be headlining Scotland’s best alternative music festival, Dirty Weekender.

Taking place across four days in November (22– 25) at multiple venues in Ayrshire, LaFontaines will be joined some of the great and good of indie such as Tom Clarke from The Enemy, Jake Bugg, Twisted Wheel, The Coral and 100 other bands and solo stars.

The LaFontaines will play Motherwell Concert Hall on Sunday, December 23, at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the gig are £20 to £25 and are available from culturenl. co.uk or by calling 01698 403120.

If you can’t wait that long you can still pick up tickets for the Dirty Weekender, priced from £60 for the full weekend, £29.50 for single days and are available to buy via the Skiddle website.
