10-man YM stun rivals

-

Ten-man East Kilbride YM defied the odds to beat St Mungo’s on Saturday.

Despite Mikey Carroll’s first half sending off for two bookable offences, the hosts rallied in the second half to claim the three points thanks to strikes from Cammy McCulloch and Ross McDonagh.

In 65 minutes YM’s resilience was rewarded when they took the lead. Scott Chaplain and McDonagh combined well to put McCulloch off on a mazy run. He glided past two defenders and unleashed a ferocious 18-drive high into the net, sparking jubilant scenes in the YM support.

Five minutes from time the second goal arrived when Scott Cairns squared the ball to McDonagh and he slotted home with the utmost precision to extend YM’s lead.

In the closing minutes Saints went down to 10 men and YM recorded a remarkable victory.

This Saturday YM face formidable opposition when they visit Premier side Giffnock North in the West of Scotland Cup. Kick off at Broadholm will be 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side lost 3-2 at Eastwood Park Mount with Declan Rennie scoring twice.

In other news the four East Kilbride teams left in the Scottish Amateur Cup all face difficult away ties in the third round. YM travel to cup favourites Colville Park while Dynamo EK face a journey to the Kingdom of Fife to play Leven United. EKRR travel to Edinburgh Star while EK Thistle go to Braehead.
