Over £1000 raised in Kyle’s memory

- Andrea Lambrou

A charity climb in memory of tragic Stewartfield man Kyle Livingston raised over £1000.

The ‘Climb it for Kyle’ challenge on Sunday saw close friends and family of the 23-year-old electrician scale Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

The fundraiser was in aid of the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) who supported Kyle’s family following his sudden death on August 12.

Donna McMahon, Kyle’s former girlfriend of three years, organised the charity event.

The 32-year-old Newslandsmuir mum said: “It was a really special day which brought everyone together to remember Kyle in a place that was really special to us and now I think will be special to us all as we will always remember that day.

“It was lovely sharing our stories of Kyle while walking up the hill and thinking of him looking down on us all – it’s what kept us going.”

She added: “It was a great achievement for all involved and what got us all to the top was knowing that we were doing it for a very special boy who will always have a place in our hearts and who we miss dearly. “I hope we all done him proud.” The Celtic-daft amateur footballer, who played locally for EK Amateurs, EK Accies and Whitehills Amateurs, was a former pupil of St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High School.

Following his tragic death, he was described by his heartbroken family as having a “heart of gold”.

On behalf of his family, Kyle’s dad Joe Welsh told the News on Monday: “We are so proud and overwhelmed with everyone who was involved in the ‘Climb it for Kyle’ walk.

“It was an emotional day and a great achievement for everyone – friends and family – as some had never done anything like that before.

“Its another way to thank the EIC with all the money raised. We look forward to our next fundraising event.”

A charity football match has been organised by Kyle’s grandad Tommy Livingston at K-Park on Sunday, November 18.

In his younger years, Kyle revelled in helping his grandad run successful East Kilbride team Greenhills Dynamo.

Joe added: “Apart from raising money, these things keep Kyle’s memory alive and raise awareness of mental health issues.”
