Guy Fawkes Night is set to go off with a bang this year with three sparkling events in East Kilbride and Avondale.

The 3rd East Kilbride Boys Brigade’s bonfire and fireworks display will take place on Friday, November 2.

And this year is set to be the biggest yet with a change of venue from East Mains Baptist Church to East Kilbride Thistle football ground.

With a bigger venue, the sky’s the limit for this year’s festivities which will see lots more planned for thrillseekers with amusement rides, a cafe, snacks and music at the new venue on Maxwell Drive, the Village. Gates will open at 6.30pm with rockets going off from 7.30pm.

The 3rd East Kilbride Scouts will be holding their popular Bonfire Night event at the scout hall on Calderwood’s Carlyle Drive on November 5. The display, which has been running for over 30 years, raised £1800 in donations last year.

There will be hot dogs, soup, tea, coffee and tuckshop for sale. Gates will open at 7pm, with the fireworks display starting at 7.30pm.

And if you can’t manage along to East Kilbride, Strathaven’s annual fireworks and bonfire night takes place the following night.

At John Hastie Park, weather permitting, there will be a special bonfire night run at the park’s popular miniature railway with two steam locomotives hauling passengers from 5pm to 8.30pm.

Revellers can experience the railway in the dark illuminated by fairy lights and coloured spotlights while flames and fireworks light up the night sky. Railway rides are by donation at the gate for this night only. Gates open 7pm.

Don’t forget your sparklers!
