They do like to be beside the seaside!

-

Youngsters enjoyed three action-packed days of sport at Inverclyde last week with East Kilbride Sports Council.

A travelling squad of 52 athletes from the sports of football and badminton set off from the John Wright Sports Centre and made the journey to the Ayrshire coast during the October Week holiday.

And they made good use of the facilities at the National Sports Training Centre, which is the first residential sports complex of its kind in the UK following a £12 million investment from the Scottish Government and Sportscotland to bring it to a world class level.

Footballers from Strathaven Dynamo had the use of the Weir 3G indoor hall and also had training sessions on the grass pitches.

The team bonding and training sessions certainly paid dividends with Strathaven Dynamo’s 2004 side beating league leaders EK Thistle on Sunday at Brancumhall.

The main sports hall can accommodate up to eight badminton courts which allowed the badminton coaches to get maximum benefit from their visit.

And the catering team are also experts in providing healthy and nutritious food, Cheque it out as a healthy diet is very important for the young athletes.

A £1500 sponsorship from Tesco’s Bag for Help scheme helped cover the costs of the trip and EK Sports Council treasurer, Bob Anderson, said: “Sponsorship is essential to make this trip affordable and we’d like to say a big thank you to Tesco.

“It was another very successful visit and everyone had a fabulous time.”
