EKYM extend win run
East Kilbride YM made it 13 wins on the bounce after knocking Giffnock North out of the West of Scotland Cup.
For the second week running they won with 10-men as goals from Connor McCann, David Cameron and James Cameron edged a five-goal thriller.
YM took the lead after 25 minutes when Ryan Kelly’s slide rule pass along the left wing put McCann in possession. He outstripped the full back, cut inside and beat the keeper with a low drive intothe bottom corner.
YM increased their lead a short time later when Cameron dispossessed midfielder Burns, strode forward and stroked the ball past the keeper.
On the half time whistle Giffnock’s Ballantyne tried his luck from the edge of the box -– and it paid off with the ball deflecting into the net off a YM player.
YM soon found themselves down to ten men with McCulloch seeing red for a late tackle. They had to dig deep gain but their spirit was tremendous, going toe- to- toe with their Premiership opponents.
This was rewarded with a third goal when McCann stayed on his feet wide left and rode the tackles. Inside the area he sent a low ball to the back post for substitute James Cameron to net with his first touch.
The home team did score a second goal via a deflection at a corner, but YM held firm. They entertain Holytown Colts this Saturday in the league. Kick-off is 1pm at Hamilton Palace.
Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side lost their West Tie 3-2 at Irvine Meadow Amateurs with Declan Rennie netting their goals.
