Inspirational Jenny puts East Kilbride on map

-

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the East Kilbride News.

What can you say about Stewartfield teenager Jenny Cook?

The 15-year-old is a fundraising machine on behalf of the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and the Catherine McEwan Foundation.

Jenny was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at just four years old but has spent her life raising awareness of the condition.

Young people tend to be an easy target for some people these days but so many do so much good and Jenny certainly falls into that bracket.

Jenny’s positive outlook on life is infectious and as well as putting East Kilbride on the map, she inspires and brings out the good in others.

On page 3, you can read about her trip to London where she was runner-up in Radio 1’s Teen Hero Awards.

As well as meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Jenny inspired a London cabbie who was so moved when hearing about her work that he refused to charge her the fare from her hotel to Euston station.

He will now be coming up the road for one of Jenny’s future events which shows the impact she has on people.

Jenny has raised £342,000 so far and we’re sure that figure will only be added to in the next few years.

Well done Jenny – you are doing an incredible job and it is a pleasure to feature you in the pages of this paper.

Elsewhere in today’s edition and you could win a £50 EK, East Kilbride gift card (turn to page 16) and a £50 voucher for Di Maggio’s (page 36).

Finally, if you’re taking the wee ones out for Hallowe’en tonight, we hope you all have a frighteningly good time! Colin Paterson
