Claremont ramblers end month on a high

- Edith Findlay

Claremont Rambling Club had reasonable weather for its last outing in October – the destination being Drymen to Balmaha.

It wasn’t cold, however, the mist and rain were not far away.

Fortunately, there was only one short shower and it didn’t soak participants.

As per the usual pattern, there were two excursions; the long walk via Conic Hill was eight miles and gave great views of Loch Lomond.

The alternative route of 6.5 miles round the base of Conic Hill, via Milton of Buchanan, gave glimpses of views which the long, higher walk benefited by a panoramic extension.

The morning coffee was enjoyed in Dobbies Milngavie and the social stop was in the popular Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha.

The next walk will be on Sunday, November 4 with the destination being Moffat on the Southern Upland Way.

Members are reminded that booking-on arrangements have changed slightly.

Bookings are taken Tuesday to Friday prior to the walk, divided thus – member-only bookings will be accepted on Tuesday and Wednesday with Thursday and Friday allocated to members and visitors.

Bookings as before must be made no later than 4pm on the Friday.

The next club night will be on Tuesday, November 13 in the usual meeting venue of Claremont Church Hall’s small hall at 7.30pm. Guest speaker that evening will be Heather Kerr on the subject of polar bears.

Individuals wishing to join either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
