Kate’s just great as East Kilbride notch up win

-

East Kilbride Ladies Hockey Club’s first XI returned with a bang on Saturday after a break from league action.

The performance was hardly textbook away to Kelburne III, but it was effective enough to run out 4-0 winners and maintain their 100 per cent record in West District Division Two.

EK enjoyed most of the possession but seemed to prefer running in to groups of Kelburne players rather than passing in to the space left by them.

But the forwards hit their groove 10 minutes in, ably supported by midfield’s Alison Alexander and Fiona Williamson, and launched a barrage of shots at the 12-yearold keeper who saved every single one of them.

It took a moment of brilliance from opposition player of the match Sheona Hutchison to twist her way past three players in the D before slotting calmly home, nutmegging the keeper.

At 1-0 up it looked like EK would go on to steamroller the hosts, but they continually made the wrong decisions in possession, and Kelburne enjoyed a flurry in EK’s final third towards the end of the half.

Player of the match Kate Kinloch-Anderson put in a terrifically assured performance and got the second after Williamson and Hutchison combined on the right, the latter putting it on a plate for KinlochAnderson to sweep confidently home.

The second half was also littered with mistakes but saw the visitors use much more of the pitch.

The last five minutes were a joy to watch. Hutchison scored a carbon copy of her first goal to make it 3-0 and Alexander capped a lovely team move which saw Charlotte Martin dance down the wing, pass a perfect ball to KinlochAnderson who hit it first-time for the onrushing midfielder to score and complete the win.

Elsewhere, the second string had their game postponed due to a frozen pitch.
