Clinton is champion

Scottish Masters win

There was mixed fortunes for East Kilbride Indoor Bowling Club members at the Scottish Masters recently as Kieran Clinton won the singles title and Greg McLeish lost out to his step brother in the Youth final.

On November 9, Clinton beat Colin Walker in the Scottish Masters Final at Perth ,which was televised by the BBC.

Colin lost the first set 9-5, but he came storming back to win the second set 10-5, taking the game to a tie-break which Colin won 2-0.

The following day, McLeish came agonisingl­y close to making it an EK double.

However, step brother David Eaton, from Blantyre, had other ideas and denied him victory in the televised final.

Their efforts come off the back of a busy few weeks for the club.

On October 27, East Kilbride Gents played Prestwick at home with Internatio­nalist Paul Foster MBE playing for Prestwick. East Kilbride put in a great performanc­e to claim a narrow 73-72 win.

Meanwhile, Sam Graham represente­d EK round one of the Senior Singles Championsh­ips, winning 21-11 to progress to round two this weekend.

Robert Fair and George Reid combined to represent East Kilbride in the Senior Pairs and lost 24-3, while the EK team of Douglas McIntosh, Gordon McGinlay and Jim McGaughey lost 2214 in the Senior Triples event.

Moving into November, East Kilbride Ladies played Whiteinch and continued their winning streak with a win of 63-54, while East Kilbride Seniors played Allander and won 66-47.

In the Scottish Under-25 Gents Singles Championsh­ips, Reece Notman’s campaign ended in the first round as he lost 21-8 to internatio­nalist Darren Weir.

Elsewhere, East Kilbride Seniors played Dumbarton away and lost 67-54.

The Gents played Tweedbank away and lost 79-58. EK Ladies played Cumbernaul­d at home and won 67-45, while EK Seniors played Auchinleck at home and won 78-54.

On November 11 Beth Knox represente­d EK in the Ladies Senior Singles and won her first game 21-18. She will now progress to the next round on January 27 at Blantyre .

Moira Mackay and Betty Mayes represente­d EK in the Ladies Senior Pairs and lost 21-10, while Andy McVey, Bert Masia, Bill Todd and Alan Day represente­d East Kilbride in the Senior Fours. They won their first game 18-13 but lost 19-10 in round two.
