Road work misery Drivers in East Kilbride are facing travel disruption early in the new year when work is due to begin on the multi-million pound upgrade of Greenhills Road/A726 Strathaven Road as part of the City Deal project.

Council roads bosses have warned motorists in the area to be prepared for some delays during the major roadworks.

But there have been mixed views on social media on whether the dualling of sections of the road are necessary.

Lynn Boyle posted:“This seems to be a total waste of money. This is not a busy road, it simply needs the potholes repaired. Please take the £23 million and invest it in our schools, hospitals etc.”

Alan Franklin agreed and wrote: “Waste of money. Could be better spent.”

Kirsten Robb said:“And the public had no say whatsoever on what the City Deal projects were, but hey, the powers that be know best, eh?

“I think we need to get all the City Deal papers in the public domain so people can see for themselves the shoogly justifications made for these dinosaur projects.”

But Mark McCulloch said:“I understand what they are doing and it’s a very good idea.

“People need to stop being lazy and just take an alternative route or sit in any delays.”

However, Jacqui Shearer said: “Never-ending roadworks in East Kilbride beyond a joke.”
