Country stars shine

-

Country music stars Raintown and Katee Kross and the Amberjax are set to make a pitstop in Lanarkshire next month on the back of two successful European tours.

The bands will bring their highly acclaimed live shows to the East Kilbride Village Theatre on Saturday, August 17.

Raintown fuse a passion for Country music with their eclectic musical influences and continue the tradition of exciting new music to emerge from Scotland.

Their electrifying live performances and well-crafted songs have elevated this impressive duo to new heights and cemented their place as one of the UK’s leading‘new breed’of Country acts. They will be exclusively showcasing brand new material at this special East Kilbride show.

With 16 awards and two critically acclaimed albums in just five years, this Glasgow-based duo deliver bright, uptempo guitar-led Americana and contemporary Country pop-rock all arranged around superb harmonies and the duo’s trademark back and forth vocals.

Twenty-two year old Katee Kross is one of the fastest rising stars on the rapidly growing UK Country scene.

The Glasgow native has already gained an impressive live CV performing at Wembley Arena, SSE Hydro and the world famous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, working with such diverse artists as Seasick Steve, Dougie MacLean, Barbara Dickson, James Grant and Findlay Napier.

With a career that has already seen the release of three self-penned albums, Katee has progressed beautifully as a young artist and maturing songwriter.

Along with her fantastic band, The Amberjax, Katee recently headlined the Country on the Clyde weekend and in 2018 appeared at 11 festivals across the UK. This year Katee will host the Open Mic Stage for the second year at Dougie MacLean’s AmberFest.

Tickets for the EK show cost £12 and are available via www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01355 248669.

Funbox are controlling transmission and Anya, Kevin, Gary and Bonzo are taking recruits for their intergalactic mission across the galaxy right here in Lanarkshire.

In the four years since their first show the Funbox gang have been pirates, princesses, superheroes, a variety of underwater sea creatures and dino-hunters – to name a few guises.

This year the fossil fuel is now rocket fuel as the countdown is on to blast off with Funbox in their brand new singalong adventure for 2019 – Space Race.

“We’re really looking forward to blasting off with this show,” said Anya. “We’ve got keys to find and only one spacesuit to share – here’s hoping we don’t get lost in space!”

It appears Fun is the operative word in Funbox as the gang can barely hide the excitement and love they have of performing.

“We get to act like kids all day, who wouldn’t love to make a living out of that?” said Kevin. “During the week there’s lots of what we call the ‘boring grown up stuff ’ for the day-to-day running of the business, but as soon as the weekend hits and we’re performing it’s like having a second childhood all over again.”

Funbox is the brainchild of Gary Coupland, Anya Scott-Rodgers and Kevin Macleod who since starting out in March 2015 have gone from strength to strength, quickly becoming firm family favourites and Scotland’s premier children’s entertainment company.

Funbox offers the same traditional songs and silliness known and loved by many but with their own brand of manic humour and a modern twist.

“We’ve been described as fresh and edgier than before and the whole family is getting involved”, said Gary, who was the Singing Kettle’s music man for 32 years before Funbox was born.

In Space Race, the crew of the ‘Starship Funbox’ take a space odyssey to explore strange new worlds and dimensions on their galaxy-hopping quest to find their keys and answer the mysteries of the universe – What do astronauts eat? What is the stinkiest planet? And where are the friendliest aliens?

Packed with classics like ‘Apples and Bananas’ and ‘Aiken Drum,’ Funbox favourites and brand new songs, Space Race is out of this world singalong fun for all the family.

Come dressed for an intergalactic adventure as an alien, a space princess or an astronaut, and remember... in space everyone can hear you sing!

We are giving away two family passes (two adults and two children) for each Space Race show at East Kilbride’s Village Theatre on Saturday, July 27 at 1pm and 3.30pm.
