Council working to improve roads

- FRASER WILSON

A number of roads across South Lanarkshire are subject to closures and diversions as the council implements its road improvements scheme.

And some of the closures will be in place for a number of months.

Redwood Crescent in East Kilbride has been closed between Redwood Drive and part of Redwood Crescent since last Monday until October 6.

This is to allow for the installation of a new sewer linked to a new housing development. A diversion via Redwood Drive, A726 GSO, and Redwood Crescent is in place for the duration.

Westwood Road and Murray Road will be closed between Melbourne Avenue and Westwoodhill from this Sunday to the following Saturday (August 10) to allow for resurfacing work, and diversions are in place.

Later in the month, Tewkesbury Road and Bosworth Road will be closed between Thorndyke and Barrie Road from 7am on Monday, August 19 till late night on August 23 – again for carriageway resurfacing works.

And the disruption for improvements continues next month, when Burns Park and Scott Hill will close for five days until September 6, as will Law Place from September 9 to 13.

Meanwhile, closures between A749 Glasgow Road/Kingsway and Stewartfield Crescent/James Hamilton Heritage Park on Stewartfield Way are set to reopen this Friday.

The closures were in place for resurfacing of the carriageway.

Disruption on Lindsayfield Road, Blacklaw Drive and Glen Moriston are all set to end this weekend also.

Elsewhere in the area, the closure of Meadowhead Highway between Meadowhead Farm access and Cladence Highway in Auldhouse is ongoing.

The road has been closed for “safety reasons” since April 13 and is set to reopen on October 12.

In nearby Chapelton, Burn Highway will close between Burnbank Farm and Nethershields Farm from August 13 to 15 for BT installation work.

In Jackton, Hayhill Road is closed between O’Cathian House and Gill Farm until August 16 for repairs to Gill Bridge, with an alternative route via Eaglesham Road and Peel Road.

And in Strathaven, Lethame Road is closed until August 11, Wellbrae is closed till August 12, with Bridge Street set to close at its junction with Common Green from October 28 to November 17 for Scottish Water works.

Scottish Water works will also see parts of Thomson Street close from Monday, August 26 until Sunday, October 6, and additional road resurfacing works are planned for in and out of the village from mid-August.
