Brutal Brexit fear for SNP MSP Fabiani

-

MSP Linda Fabiani admits she fears that a Brexit deal led by new Prime Minister Boris Johnson will have a devastating impact on East Kilbride.

The SNP representative in Holyrood launched a scathing attack on the new man in Downing Street as Britain awaits the chance to hear his plan for Brexit.

Johnson earned a landslide victory in the Tory leadership contest before being sworn in as PM by the Queen last week. But Fabiani admits she fears the damage it could have on her constituents, including on employment and the general standard of living. She notes the town voted to remain in the EU and did not help elect the Conservative Party at the last general election. The MSP said Boris Johnson has been“imposed upon us as Prime Minister of the UK”and“amongst many other concerns I have about the man is his bullishness about Brexit.”

She told the News:“This worries me greatly. Brexit of any kind will be damaging to our community, but Johnson’s pledge to leave the EU by October 31 this year, with or without a deal, is irresponsible.

“The effect on East Kilbride – local businesses and jobs, people and living standards – could be extremely serious.

“There are unanswered questions too on critical issues such as potential shortages such as medical supplies.

“The people of East Kilbride constituency did not vote for Brexit, did not vote for the current UK Tory Government and certainly did not vote for Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

“I’m sure many residents will be wondering how on earth the United Kingdom’s political system has become so broken, and are thinking hard about what’s best for Scotland’s future.”
