Which sites were examined?

-

I was very interested in the letter from Bob Anderson about the proposed allotments at Lammermoor.

He wants to know what other sites in East Kilbride were considered.

I’ve been waiting six months for that information.

During the last council term a group was set up to examine sites for allotments in South Lanarkshire including East Kilbride.

At that time I had a discussion with the lead officer about one site being looked at which was the playpark at Colonsay.

I registered my objections to that proposal and said it would unleash ‘world war three’ .

The officer assured me that Colonsay was well down the list of possibilities.

He told me that they were looking at other sites mentioning Hairmyres, Westwood and the western end of East Kilbride.

When the Lammermoor proposal was put forward earlier this year I asked the officers dealing with the issue for a list of other sites and the report from the officers who carried out the survey.

Officers told me they had no record of any report. That I have to say set off alarm bells. For officers to have carried out a survey and not produced a report would be at the least negligent. For a report to be lost or mislaid would be extremely careless.

I’m afraid the cynic in me thinks a more appropriate word than ‘negligent’ or ‘careless’ might just be convenient

Councillor Jim Wardhaugh MP has lost my support I write in disgust at Lisa Cameron the SNP MP’s recent announcement that she voted against giving the women from Northern Ireland the same rights and choices that women in the rest of the UK have in regards to abortion.

Currently women in Northern Ireland have to travel to other countries in the UK to have this procedure, if they have the finances.

If they don’t, they either put their lives in danger from seeking an illegal procedure or are forced to go through with an unwanted pregnancy, which may see a child born unwanted or into poverty and relying on the state to meet its welfare needs.

This vote was not about the rights and wrongs of abortion, which has been debated countless times over the years, but about giving the women of Northern Ireland the same rights and choices women in Scotland and the rest of the UK already have.

I sympathise with Ms Cameron when she states that having two miscarriages prompted her decision. However, I write as a woman who had six miscarriages before giving birth to my only child.

And as far as religious beliefs go, we never voted for Ms Cameron to represent us on her personal religious beliefs.

I’d like Ms Cameron to know that I will not be voting for her again, ever, nor the SNP if they do not come out and publicly condemn her decision on this matter.
