Kind dancers star in charity night extravaganza
A dazzling dance show raised hundreds of pounds for two charities supporting generations young and old.
Starlight Dance group put on the summer performance at the Ballerup Hall recently and collected more than £2600 for East Kilbride Dementia Carers Group and Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
More than 25 Starlight dancers took part in the glittering evening of dancing, fundraising, fun and games. Director and principal teacher Jennifer Connolly said proudly: “At Starlight Dance we believe in giving back and helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
“After the success of our last charity show in 2017 I decided to host another.
“I am absolutely delighted that we have raised such a fantastic amount for these very worthy causes.
“I am so proud of all the fundraising we do at Starlight for charity and feel it’s an important part of the school’s culture.
“Thank you to everyone who danced and attended and made the night great.” Jennifer gave a special thanks to Lanarkshire firm Briggs which kindly donated £500 towards the fund.
EK Dementia Carers Group coordinator Brian Doig was delighted with the donation and said a huge thank you to the group.
He said: “We need to raise £57,000 this year to continue providing over 11,000 hours of care and support to people with dementia and their carers.
“This donation is not only a huge chunk of that target, but a great encouragement.
“For Starlight to select us as a charity worthy of its support means so much and on behalf of the many people who will benefit, I cannot thank them enough.”
Hayley Smith, assistant community fundraiser at CHAS, was equally touched by the generous donation.
She said: “Starlight Dance are incredible supporters of CHAS.
“They raised a phenomenal £1326 from their charity dance show and they should be very proud.
“Thank you to each and everyone involved – it means so much to CHAS.”
