Compelling Reason to check out new band...

- GREGOR FARQUHARSON

Airdrie band The Reason will release their latest single Never Let Me Down next month.

The quartet comprises Martin Lynch (vocals/ guitar), Bruce Murray (bass/vocals), Chris McCann (guitar/vocals) and Matthew Preston (drums).

Singer Martin told the Advertiser: “The project started with all of us being from Airdrie.

“We’ve had a few different drummers and now we are three quarters Airdrie and one Muirhead, which isn’t too far away from us.

“We wrote our first song together in high school and we’ve slowly developed our songwriting in my house in Chapelhall.”

The new single is about not wanting to feel disappointment and ultimately living life to its fullest.

Martin said: ”I like people to take their own meaning from the music but to me, Never Let Me Down is about youth and maintaining as much of that while it’s here.

You’re only as young as you feel, so enjoy life while you can and that’s the mantra of the song.”

The song has an accompanying music video which was directed and shot by Stuart Alexander who recently worked with The LaFontaines.

Martin continued: “The video kind of alludes to the lyrical content of the song, and many bigger issues that the song explores.

“Mental health is a tough topic to discuss for a lot of people and the video shows that at times, but we want to spread a message that its okay not to be okay and everyone has someone they can speak to and something they can enjoy doing.”

The track is being released via indie label Sound-Hub records and is part of an EP’s worth of material that the band have been sitting on for a while. The frontman added: “We’ve been working with Sound-Hub and have a lot of exciting things coming.

“The annoying thing is waiting for them to come out because we just want everyone to hear what we have.

“We’ve got about an EP worth of material just set to go out whenever the world is ready for them and we hope to raise the bar and bring along a bigger crowd with every tune that passes.”

Following the release, on August 9, the Reason have more to show people, with a number of gigs booked.

“We have a show on September 27 with This Feeling in Broadcast in Glasgow.

We’re playing alongside some class bands such as Only Shadows, Slouch and The Stoned Immaculate. That’ll be a few months into the release of Never Let Me Down so we might even consider unleashing another tune onto the world - who knows!”
