Cruel thieves stole loved birthday gift

A schoolboy did odd jobs around the town to replace his stolen bike.

And he says he hopes he has taught the heartless thief who stole it a valuable lesson.

Nine-year-old Adam Elliot was devastated when his birthday present – a prized orange TMZ two-wheeler – was nicked last month and came up with a plan to raise the cash to buy a new one.

The Crosshouse Primary pupil posted a video appeal on social media, advertising himself for odd jobs in the local area, and was overwhelmed by the reaction.

In under 24 hours he was inundated with odd job requests and raised enough money to buy the £150 bike back.

Adam told the News this week: “I’m glad I was able to buy the exact same bike.

“It was fun working to make the money, especially at Waffle-icious. The lady told me there was a job for me there when I turn 16.”

He added: “I’m very proud that I worked for it myself and I hope whoever took my bike sees that.”

In his first venture into the world of work, Adam weeded driveways, washed cars, bathed two exotic pets and helped clean and scoop ice cream at Waffle-icious Desserts in Westwood Square.

And with nearly £400 in the pot from additional online donations to his Gofundme page, the big-hearted Greenhills boy had enough to donate the rest of his earnings to charity.

He chose Monklands Day Surgery, who recently treated his little sister Olivia.

Adam’s mum Kirsty Sullivan, 37, said: “Adam had a great time raising money to get a new bike.

“I’m glad that he didn’t expect us to just go out and buy another one for him.

“It was important for him to realise this and going out and working for it himself taught him responsibility and the value of money. I’m very proud of him.” Hard worker
