YM grind out cup victory

-

East Kilbride YM marched into round three of the Scottish Amateur Cup with a 3-1 win over Musselburgh Windsor.

On a very wet and heavy playing surface, YM had to grind out a result.

YM eventually made the breakthrough in 40 minutes when Ross McDonagh netted from close range after good work from Connor McCann.

Moments later Craig Fry’s 20-yard volley rebounded off the crossbar, meaning YM went in at the break with only one goal to their credit.

But the visitors increased their lead early in the second half following good interplay between McDonagh and McCann. They putKneale in possession, and his low cross was netted by the ever alert Craig Tocher.

The home team pulled one back from the penalty spot, but their hopes of a comeback were dashed when McCulloch crossed into the area for YM captain Liam Sloan to head home.

As the News went to press, YM were without a fixture for Saturday but in the process of trying to arrange a friendly.

Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side continued the fine form that has taken them top of the Premier League with a 6-0 thumping of Helensburgh.

Kyle Rankin hit a double and George Paton, Scott Forrest, Ross Anderson and Fraser Gray completed the rout. On Saturday they travel to Glasgow Uni.

Finally, YM’s 35s beat Strathaven Dynamo 35s 4-1 in the Kenny Parry Memorial Trophy, with goals from Scott McEwan, Zander McMillan, Ryan Kelly and Kevin Gallagher. This Friday they play Hamilton 35s in the last eight of the Scottish Cup, kick-off 8pm at K Park.
