Lindsay House rape investigation ongoing

-

Police in East Kilbride say they have arrested a man in connection with a rape at Lindsay House homeless unit last Saturday.

But specialist officers are still asking for help from the public, with no one yet being charged for the attack.

A woman was“seriously sexually assaulted”at the unit at around 10.15pm on October 12.

This week a 26-year-old man was taken in and questioned by police, but was later released.

On Monday a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed no one had been charged in relation to the incident.

He told us:“Officers arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the serious sexual assault of a 32-year-old woman on Saturday.

“He has been released pending further investigation and enquiries remain ongoing.”

Over the last few weeks, the News has been reporting on an increase in anti-social behaviour in the Village, with many attributing it to the YPeople project.

The facility was moved to the Lindsay House 18 months ago and has coincided with the rise in trouble.

An FOI enquiry by the News to Police Scotland showed officers had been called out to the homeless unit over 700 times, attending on 541 occasions in the last two years to deal with anti-social behaviour, violence and drug misuse.

Members of the community, including Dr Lisa Cameron MP, have called for YPeople to be moved from there.

This latest incident comes after a week of violence and anti-social behaviour in the Village.

That saw the Spice Indian Restaurant, the area’s new Lidl store, a florist and St Andrew’s Hospice were all targeted at the weekend.

A second News source said:“When is enough enough?

“It’s time the powers that be truly listen to the growing number of complaints of an increasing number of people affected and respond not with empty, meaningless words, but with action that appropriately ameliorates this epidemic of crime.”

Anyone with any inforamtion is asked to contact police on 101.
