It’s a busy time between Brexit and constituency
My work supporting older adults in the constituency continues and I was delighted to meet with our local Parkinson’s Society Group to discuss social care funding, access to specialist medicines post Brexit and respite.
I have put questions forward to Government on these issues.
If you wish to add your name to my Parliamentary Petition against BBC TV Licence Charges for the Over 75s please let me know via email on lisa. cameron.mp@parliament. uk or via my office at the Civic Centre.
Older adults have been let down by the UK Government and BBC in relation to these charges and many find themselves unable to afford their TV licence as a result of austerity.
I have spoken with residents on this issue and know that across our constituency there is significant support for Free TV licences for the over 75s being maintained.
Mobility issues due to illness or disability across the lifespan can lead to social isolation and loneliness and a television or radio can be a lifeline and important protective factor.
Across our constituency, I was pleased to hold two successful WASPI events for the Campaign against Women’s State Pensions Inequality and to sign off complaint forms for the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
Thousands of women have been adversely affected in our constituency and I will continue to campaign with them in their fight for pensions equality.
I held my recent coffee morning in Murray which was very well attended and where I was able to take forward a number of local issues including lack of parking availability and concerns about antisocial behaviours in the Murray Square.
I have now met with businesses, residents and the Community Council.
I am aware that there has been significant concern regarding anti-social behaviour in the Village area of East Kilbride which has been significantly attributed to residents of the Y People Project at Lindsay House.
Lindsay House has been positively accepted by residents in East Kilbride, it has been there for decades, I was myself in the badminton club there as a child and my uncle worked in the facility.
The issue is therefore
We’re proud of our Olympic size pool, it’s fantastic...
not in my understanding, Lindsay House being in the Village, but the Y People projects’placement of temporary residents in Lindsay House who have complex and significant substance abuse difficulties coupled in some cases with criminal histories.
Lindsay House is not in my opinion a suitable setting for individuals with such complex needs who require multidisciplinary rehabilitation and I have asked South Lanarkshire Council to take appropriate action.
Finally, I am delighted that our Dollan Aqua Centre has been reopened to the public.
We are very proud of our Olympic size pool and I, like so many across East Kilbride learned to swim there.
It is a fantastic facility and as a result of our campaign, I am delighted the council have enabled older adults to have two sets of free swimming lessons with their Activage pass.
Benefits of swimming must be delivered across the lifespan.
