Brownies honoured to name new tanker Rodney for firm
NICOLA FINDLAY
A group of East Kilbride Brownies helped a new drainage tanker get out on the move – by naming it.
The Westwood troop came up with a number of suggestions with Rodney eventually coming out on top for the Metro Rod Glasgow vehicle.
As part of its commitment to the local community the firm, based in East Kilbride, recently visited the Westwood Brownies to discuss the impact of drainage issues on the environment whilst giving them the opportunity to name a crucial new piece of equipment.
Metro Rod put on an interactive session for the Brownies, discussing the growing issue of fatbergs, the impact they are having on climate change and how they can be prevented.
Whilst there, the drainage experts also asked the Brownies to make suggestions for the new tanker’s name.
Suggestions from the Brownies included Rainbow Sparkle,
McTankerson and Thomas the Tanker Engine with the final decision being put to Twitter and Rodney being selected as the winning name.
Andrew Johnston, owner of Metro Rod Glasgow, said: “It was fantastic to get down to see our local Brownies and chat to them about the environmental impact of drainage issues.
“No matter how old you are, each individual has the opportunity to play an important role in reducing waste, blockages and saving water.
“Putting on events such as these are crucial and are a great way of getting the message out there to the younger generation.
“It was also great to see them getting creative and coming up with a fantastic selection of names for our new tanker.”
To support the Brownie group further Metro Rod Glasgow has donated much needed camping equipment to the unit, allowing the Westwood District to schedule camping trips for Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
