...and it’s all systems go for Christmas lights switch-on

-

The East Kilbride skyline will come alive with beautiful colour next weekend as the Christmas lights switch-on takes place.

The festive season officially kicks off in the town on Sunday, November 17 as celebrations take over the Village.

But before that, EK, East Kilbride will launch its own Christmas activity with Santa’s Grotto the day before.

Santa, Rudolph, and the magical elves have helped to create a winter wonderland.

The great man will be joined by his Christmas helpers outside Debenhams at 11am before he sets off on foot towards his glittering grotto at The Hub, meeting old and young on the way.

Spot one of EK’s elves on Saturday, November 16, December 7 or December 21 and you could pick up anything from a handful of sweeties to an EK gift card or even a meal at The Hub.

Then, next Sunday, crowds will gather in the Village for the big moment, with the fun starting at Hunter Street and Montgomery Street where the ever-popular Christmas market returns from 12noon.

Festive revellers can then enjoy a whole host of entertainment starting from 2pm, including street displays, giveaways, children’s rides and a Superhero and Fairytale show.

Entertainment will be supplied by local dance and theatre groups, who will regale with song and dance, as well as the band Ernest.

Clyde 1’s Gina McKie will again host the event with help from those troublesome Minions, as well as Olaf and Kristoff from Frozen.

Then the switch will be flicked at 5pm when Father Christmas himself lights up the Village.

Motorists should note that Hunter Street and Montgomery Street will be closed to traffic during the day on November 17.

And we can confidently predict the weather and tell you there will definitely be snow – that’s thanks to the a snow machine, which will see flakes fall from above when the switch is flicked.
