Community group are blooming marvellous

A community watchdog in East Kilbride has been given a top award for its efforts to improve the Village and make it blooming marvellous.
East Mains Community Council was among six groups from South Lanarkshire who have been presented with an ‘it’s your neighbourhood’ award by environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The accolade celebrates their efforts to clean up and improve their local communities.
East Mains Community Council were recognised for their Village in Bloom initiative which saw them install floral planters in the Village.
Secretary, Lynsay Keough, said: “To be awarded a certificate by Keep Scotland Beautiful for Village in Bloom is amazing.
“This is an ongoing project throughout the Village which features our planters throughout the area.
“It is something that we are always looking to develop and expand and would welcome local support to take this project to the next level and keep it moving forward.”
Katie Murray, communities and place manager from Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Every It’s Your Neighbourhood participant deserves this recognition for their hard work and determination to improve their own community.
“By volunteering their own time the 2019 groups have managed to support hundreds of environmental initiatives across Scotland.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the groups involved. I hope that their enthusiasm inspires many more people to take part in helping to improve their local community in 2020.”
