SCHOOL REPORT

School days are never boring at Glassford and I’m sure the children agree its not all

about numeracy and literacy (though obviously that’s important too) – at Glassford we continually strive to give them experiences away from their school desk.

In the last month, the children created beautiful Guy McCoo which was our entry to the Strathaven Bonfire Guy Competition and won the first prize for their efforts. It was a shame to see him go up in flames on top of the Bonfire.

Then just last week, the whole School enjoyed a trip to see Mary Poppins at the cinema.

Mrs Goldie popped into School to her class and also to help plant up the winter plant pots so we can enjoy some spring colour next year.

We have a Parents Night coming up soon and children have all been given appointments to see the class teacher.

The classes are looking forward to showing off their work and all the equipment they use to enhance their learning. Especially Active Literacy which is a big focus this term.

Classroom two were working on a STEM project recently alongside the Academy. This was especially important for the P7 pupils who had to present the project to their P7 Peers across the learning community but the whole class got involved in the lengthy process.

Classroom one are working on an Enterprise project just now where they are learning about the cost of materials, loans and the basics of going into Business.

They will be selling their work at the School Christmas Fayre and hoping to make a profit. The Christmas Fayre is on Friday, December 22 6-8pm within the School, and plans are well in hand for all the activities.

We are looking for donations for the childrens tombola (see Louise Caithness), raffles and also homebaking if you’re handy in the kitchen.

There will be a meeting arranged soon to firm up on the plans for the evening. All are welcome at the event with free

entry for all.

On the same day (December 22), there will be a ragbag street collection. Empty bags will soon be distributed to all the village and we ask that filled bags be put out on the evening of 21 or before eight on Friday 22 and we will collect them from the kerb. Please fill with shoes, bags and all kinds of clothes – this continues to be a valuable fundraiser for the School

And to finish the term, the children are already busy rehearsing their Christmas Nativity – Hey Ewe. There will be three performances over December 18 and 19 (the dates have been altered from previously noted because of the general election the previous week). The performances on 19 are ticketed at 9.30am and 7pm and the 18th performance is at 1.30pm.
