Shoppers disagree with poll

-

Despite the town centre’s latest accolade, it provoked an overwhelmingly negative reaction online.

Readers took to our social media pages to hit out at the news.

Lesley Turton posted: “They are having a laugh. There are more empty units than full ones. Someone walking about with eyes closed.”

Rodger Mathieson said: “Empty units everywhere. Charged for parking. Food court poor. I’m from EK but I’d rather go to Silverburn or Barrhead. Only go down the centre for the cinema. I’d like to know who voted it second.”

Justin Cullen wrote: “Well if you like vaping shops, pawnbrokers, charity shops, amusement arcades and bookmakers it certainly is.” Helen Mullarkey posted: “Used to be. Only charity shops and restaurants left. Such a shame. Was good a few years ago. They need to lower the rates and stop charging for parking.”

Duncann J Forbes said: “I’ve been in East Kilbride just over a year and I’ve noticed the shopping centre deteriorating so much. So many shops are closing and not being filled. Just a matter of time before the Hub closes all together as the restaurants are barely used.”

Marie Jo Fallow wrote: “Did the people making the decision visit the wrong shopping centre? I’m certain they must have.”

Pamela D’rin posted: “I’m honestly astounded by this. Doesn’t say much for the rest of the shopping centres.

“Too many empty units, lack of variety and high parking charges. The centre management could do so much more.”
