YM book place in last 16

-

A fantastic first-half display from East Kilbride YM booked their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Amateur Cup

Despite the rain and wind the playing surface was excellent as YM defeated Lumphinnans United 3-1 in Cowdenbeath.

David Kneale and Cammy McCulloch made positive steps out wide left and when United keeper Page was unable to hang on to McCulloch’s blistering drive from just inside the area, Kneale reacted quickest to blast home the rebound after 15 minutes.

YM were rampant and five minutes later produced a contender for goal of the month to make it 2-0.

Another left wing move, which was started by full back Ryan Kelly and involved a number of YM players, ended with Craig Tocher firing a low ball into the box where Kelly had continued his run and he swept the ball into the net from close range.

Before the break, the third goal arrived when Jordan Fletcher won possession in midfield and sent a superb ball through to Tocher, who left defenders trailing and beat the keeper with a fine strike.

The game was finished as a contest with home keeper Page playing very well to stop YM adding to their score

The second half saw the Fife side firing long balls forward but YM handled that side of the game well until United central defender Doubleday scored with a wind assisted free kick to net a consolation after an hour.

YM’s team on the day was: G. McMillan, J. Calder, L. Sloan, R. Kelly, J. Cameron, C. Fry, D. Cameron, J. Fletcher, C. McCulloch, D. Kneale, C. Tocher. Subs. R. McDonagh, C. McCann, J. White, C. Kincaid, A.Morgan.

This Saturday, weather permitting, YM travel to Kilsyth in the quarter-final of the Douglas Smith League Cup.

Meanwhile, on Sunday YM 19s rounded off a good weekend with a resounding 8-0 victory over EKFC 19s. There was a hat-trick for Giaomo, doubles for Jordan Foster and Joshua Smith, while Greg McAuley and Sean Nichols were also on target.

This Saturday YM’s GGPL side travel to Westerlands on league business.
