Cash in hand

A community council has awarded a cash boost of £500 to a local cause – and is now encouraging others to come forward.

East Mains Community Council were delighted to present Mrs Jean Craig and the EK Village Graveyard Research Group with the cheque from the Micro Grant funding scheme.

The funds will allow the group to continue their project including the recording, photographing and cataloguing of the stones and monuments in the graveyard.

They hope to publish the results of their work, which will also provide a record of the genealogy of the town’s early families.

Secretary of the Community Council Lynsay Keough is delighted to see the cash put to good use in the local area and said:“The Micro

Grant scheme is open to both individuals and local groups who need funding to pursue their objectives.

“This funding has been released from

South Lanarkshire’s Renewable Energy Fund to promote community activity and enhance quality of life for local residents within the East Mains area.

“This can be used for‘one-off projects’or emergency funding.”

Awards can reach up to £500 and the application process, through the Community Council who are administering the fund, is relatively quick and easy.
