Caretaker Paterson in the dark over manager’s role

- PAUL THOMSON

East Kilbride FC are no closer to appointing a permanent manager – three months on from Stuart Malcolm’s departure.

Caretaker boss Jim Paterson has held the reins since November and this week he admitted speculation over the role had filtered through to his players.

The News revealed in November that EK local and then Irvine Meadow boss, Brian McGinty, was keen on managing his hometown team. And just over a week ago, McGinty resigned from his post at the Junior giants.

Asked about his position this week, Paterson said: “It’s a great job and that’s why I want it.

“It’s been difficult because there has been rumours going around and there’s been loads of people asking me what’s going on.

“The players are asking as well, but I tell them we train every Tuesday and Thursday and play our games until someone says otherwise.

“You can only control the things you can control, so I really just take it one game at a time.

“I’m desperate to get a go at this job and take the team up to League Two.

“The club are ambitious and there will be experienced guys out there who will want it, so we’ll just have to see what happens.”

Stuart Malcolm left the club off the back of their worst-ever start to a league campaign, heading to League One Forfar in November.

But Paterson has helped lift them team up the table to seventh and guided them to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. Last season Malcolm was placed in temporary charge in October 2018. In February 2019 he was handed the reins on a permanent basis.

Two weeks on from EK’s Scottish Cup exit to BSC Glasgow, Paterson’s future remains unclear.
