Councilsay theyare tackling problem
South Lanarkshire Council say despite the year-on-year rise the demand for its homelessness services has decreased over the last 10 years.
And the local authority says it has a “comprehensive range of services in place” to help anyone who either experiences or who is at risk of being homeless.
South Lanarkshire Council executive director of housing and technical resources, Daniel Lowe, said: “South Lanarkshire Council work with partners to prevent homelessness occurring and where this isn’t possible to ensure immediate need is met through provision of good quality temporary accommodation alongside appropriate support.
“Along with our partners, we have a comprehensive range of services in place to help anyone who either experiences or who is at risk of being homeless.
“South Lanarkshire Council is committed to delivering excellent services to homeless households and whilst we seek to continually improve, we are confident services have been developed to best meet needs.
“For example tenancy sustainment rates following a period of homelessness are amongst the highest levels nationally, repeat homeless applications amongst the lowest, monitoring of housing support delivered internally and via commissioned specialist services reflects positive outcomes and importantly feedback from those with experience using services is overwhelmingly positive.
“The demand for our Homelessness Services are closely monitored.”
