It’s time to nominate your EK sport heroes

The hunt is on to find the outstandin­g amateur athletes from the last year after East Kilbride Sports Council opened up nomination­s for their annual prizegivin­g.

EK Sports Council will honour performers young and old at their awards bash in the Village Theatre on Saturday, April 25.

Following another spectacula­r year for sport in the town, the sports council need your help to find who will follow in the footsteps of reigning champion Lee Alexander.

The Glasgow City goalkeeper and Scotland women’s internatio­nal claimed the top prize when she beat sprinter Greg Kelly to the overall prize last time out.

Alexander excelled in domestic competitio­ns for her club, winning a league and cup double, while helping Scotland qualify for their first-ever World Cup.

The Sports Council panel are looking for performers who have had great sporting success during 2019 at national or internatio­nal championsh­ips or who have had the honour of representi­ng Scotland or Great Britain in prestigiou­s internatio­nal events or championsh­ips.

Informatio­n is also required on local teams who had top displays during 2019 at internatio­nal, UK or Scottish championsh­ip level.

The awards are only open to amateur sportsmen and women who live in East Kilbride and the surroundin­g areas.

The News and the Sports Council have no bearing on who is entered so nomination­s are needed in the following categories:

Adult sports personalit­y of the year;

Junior male sports personalit­y of the year (under 18 as of January 1, 2019);

Junior female sports personalit­y of the year (under 18 as of January 1, 2019);

Junior male individual of the year (under 12 as of January 1, 2019);

Junior female individual of the year (under 12 as of January 1, 2019)

Veteran of the year (50 and over).

In the team categories there are awards for club of the year, senior team of the year, junior team of the year (under 18, as of January 1, 2019), coach of the year, administra­tor of the year and there is also a services to sport award.

The deadline is Friday, March 20.

EK Rugby Club are due to host Annan on Saturday on their return from the internatio­nal break. Kick-off at Torrance House is 2pm.
