Michele’s generous farewell

-

FRASER WILSON

Friends and family of a Chapelton woman made sure she would be remembered with one final act of generosity.

We told you in December how loved ones of keen runner Michele Osborne helped her meet her goal of completing 100 Park Runs runs before she passed.

Having beaten breast cancer once before, Michele was struck down with secondary lung cancer.

She fought valiantly throughout, continuing to run and refusing to let her illness dictate what she wanted to do until her passing in December.

She was even named Strathaven Striders’ runner of the year.

Friends rallied together to use Michele’s individually chipped GPS watch and complete a 5k each, before handing it over to the next person.

That was as part of a 13-run relay to ensure she could get her hands on a much-coveted Park Run t-shirt, with the final leg being completed by her husband Jeremy.

And friends rallied once more for their pal, raising an amazing £800 at Michele’s funeral which was donated to local charity, Loaves and Fishes.

Handing over a cheque to the foodbank, Jeremy said: “I hope the money makes a real difference to those who need the support.”

The foodbank’s director, Denis Curran, said: “It is our humble pleasure to carry out the wishes of the ‘Queen of Awesomeness’’ family.

“Thank you so much to Michele’s loved ones and friends.”

Michele’s family and friends are now naming the new boat at Strathclyde Loch after her – the rowing club there bought a new single and are naming it ‘Snowgoose’ in her honour.
