HOCKEY
UDDINGSTON WIN FIRST TITLE
Clinetix Rejuvenation Uddingston Ladies’ Hockey Club won their first silverware by triumphing in the Scottish Hockey National League Indoor Division Three.
The girls dominated their league this season by going unbeaten and scoring over 100 goals in the process, which also sees them gain promotion to National League Indoor Division Two next season, with the aim of playing in the top indoor division within the next few seasons.
The outdoor season stopped for its winter break in November to allow for the indoor season, which resumes with a double header.
The girls will travel to play Aberdeen University Ladies on Saturday and ESM Ladies on Sunday, which may go a long way to determining the outcome of the 2019/20 title.
Uddingston Ladies resume the second half of their National League Division 2 league campaign sitting top of the table, with a game in hand, and are very much focused on gaining promotion to National League Outdoor Division One.
That would see the ladies compete next season in the top division in Scotland for the first time in the club’s history.
Uddingston are also enjoying a run in the Scottish Cup, with a last-eight match away to ESM Ladies on Sunday, March 8, which again is a first for our ladies section.
An Uddingston Hockey Club spokesperson said: “This season looks like creating history either way for our ladies, with a special thanks going to our very supportive sponsor Clinetix Rejuvenation, who have supported our ladies’ section for many years now, as it has grown to four teams strong .
“We will hopefully soon be playing in the top leagues in Scotland and maybe one day in European competitions also.”
If you are interested in playing hockey at any level, Uddingston’s junior section ranges from four to 16 years, for boys and girls, and there are 10 senior ladies’ and gents’ teams that cater for all abilities and ages.
The club is always looking for new players, with all newcomers and beginners very welcome.
